Collection: Fathers Day
Brief History of Father's Day
Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. The modern version of the holiday was founded in the United States. The first known Father's Day service occurred on July 5, 1908, in Fairmont, West Virginia, organized by Grace Golden Clayton. However, it was Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, who pushed for a national holiday after hearing a sermon about Mother's Day in 1909. She wanted to honor her father, a Civil War veteran who raised six children as a single parent. The first official Father's Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910. The idea gradually gained popularity, and in 1972, President Richard Nixon signed a proclamation making Father’s Day a federal holiday in the U.S.
Father's Day in the UK
In the United Kingdom, Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June, similar to the United States. This day is dedicated to acknowledging and celebrating the roles and contributions of fathers and father figures.
